Journey Beyond Borders: Discover, Explore, Experience

Ringing in the New Year in Budapest

I’ve been to Budapest three times, but the most memorable visit was for New Year’s Eve 2017. I met up with my Romanian friend, Emanuel, and we stayed in a charming Airbnb. Budapest, with its rich character and charm, felt quintessentially European, almost Bohemian, offering an atmosphere that felt like home to me as a Polish person. From exploring historic sites to enjoying the vibrant nightlife, each moment in Budapest was unforgettable.

Budapest is a city that seamlessly blends history with modernity. The stunning Parliament Building, a neo-Gothic masterpiece along the Danube, is a must-see. Don’t miss the historic thermal baths, like Széchenyi, where you can soak in warm, mineral-rich waters. For a panoramic view of the city, hike up to Buda Castle and Fisherman’s Bastion, especially breathtaking at sunset.

The city’s unique, often quirky bars offer an eclectic nightlife experience amidst artfully decayed settings. We certainly enjoyed a good pub crawl in the city centre and a great night out in the local LGBT club.

For a taste of local cuisine, don’t miss trying Hungarian goulash or chimney cake, known as kürtőskalács. The Central Market Hall is a great place to sample these delicacies and pick up unique souvenirs.

Budapest’s appeal lies in its ability to offer something for every traveler. Whether you’re wandering along the Danube, enjoying the café culture, or delving into its rich history, this city leaves a lasting impression. I look forward to returning to this enchanting city and uncovering even more of its hidden gems.
